Created To Create

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. -Genesis 1:1

Our God is love, He is holy, He is mighty, He is merciful, He is gracious, He is all of these things, and more. But in His Holy Book, the first thing He showed us is that He is a creator. In Genesis chapter 1, we meet the creator of the universe.

We meet the one who called the sun, moon, oceans, and stars into existence. The one who formed animals, plants, and all living things. The one who created man in His own image and then called them to be fruitful and multiply.

God, The Creator

In the beginning, before we know anything else about God, we meet a God who creates and that's an important thing to remember as we go through life. It's important to remember God as the Creator because He is the creator of you.

As humans who read the Bible like a normal book from start to finish, it's easy to assume that God only did creative work for 6 days and then stopped. As if He started with the heavens and the earth, and ended with Adam and Eve. That's all the book says about creation itself, but it is not all that God created.

The creator of the universe continues to create today! He created me. He created you. He is creating our children, their children, and their children's children. He forms each one of us with His very own hands, making us in His image and likeness. He also creates the most beautiful sunsets, sunrises, and artwork in the night sky.

But more than that, God creates a way where there is no way. He creates joy out of pain, freedom out of bondage, and redemption out of sinfulness. He creates change, He creates hope, and He creates a stirring in our hearts.  Our God still creates and that will never ever change.

Created to Create

The Creator In Us

Have you ever wondered why creating gives you such joy and purpose? Perhaps it's because that’s exactly what you were born to do. Maybe you were created to create. It is entirely possible that your heavenly creator created you so you can co-create with Him.

One day when I was making the beds around the house- I looked back and felt joy. It was everyday housework, but I had created a clean space. I thought to myself this is good and I laughed with God thinking how awesome and mighty He is with all of His creation. After each day of creation, God said it is good.

That seemingly simple moment reminded me of what being a creator actually is. It's not just painting art on a canvas, writing a beautiful poem, or making something out of nothing. It's also creating a clean environment, creating a change in hearts, and creating love-filled moments. Creating is doing anything and everything in excellence so you can look at it and say it is good - just like God did.

Creating is not just something we do, it's who we are. We are meant to create and show Christ-like characteristics that is what we are called to do. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commanded His followers to go out into the world and make disciples of all nations.

This may seem hard, especially in a chaotic world that enjoys anything but discipline or discipleship. Still, God has never asked anyone to do anything without Him. He has already provided the resources we need to accomplish His purpose on Earth.

We already have all we need to create, there is a creator in all of us, we just need to start creating. Bradley Kellie was created based on this premise.

Remember, you were created by an ever-loving, ever-holy, ever-creative God to reflect His love and character to the world. One way to do that is to continue His creative work. Choose to be His hands and feet in a world that so desperately needs Him.
