The Salvadoran American Coin Necklace was made to celebrate República de El Salvador heritage. The pendant is double-sided, purposely crafted with high detail, and adorned with a Laurel Wreath Border symbolizing victory.
One side states “República de El Salvador” (the official state name, El Salvador translates to “The Savior”, a reference to Jesus Christ) at top. The bottom states “Dios, Unión, Libertad”, which translates "God, Union, Liberty", the official state motto. At center left, you’ll find a perched Torogoz; also known as the turquoise-browned motmot (Eumomota superciliosa). This national animal is a gorgeous, brightly colored tropical bird with a deep turquoise chest and bright blue patches on its head, chest, and long tail feathers. At center right, you’ll find the Flor de Izote (also known as a Yucca Flower Blossom (Yucca Gigantea), beautiful, delicate, and good for a number of uses), the national flower. The fresh blossoms are used in cooking; they are mixed with onions, tomatoes, and scrambled eggs, and the dish is traditionally served for breakfast, often accompanied by warm tortillas (Flor de Izote con Huevos). Both of these national symbols rest on top of an outline of the nation’s borders and its 14 departments (departamentos, similar to states).
The other side shows the resurrected Jesus Christ (El Salvador) as Lord over the nations, Lord over the United States of America (Flag) and El Salvador (Flag) and can be worn close to the heart.
