The Lost Will Be Found - Parable of The Lost Sheep
“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ - Luke 15:4-6
Have you ever felt so lost that you had no idea if you'd ever be able to find your way back to God or even to yourself? Have you also seen people that seem lost, dejected, or hopeless? If you have, do not be disheartened. God leaves no one behind, and the scripture above proves that. He is always after His lost sheep.
The parable of the lost sheep is actually a picture of God's perfect love for His creation. Jesus told this story not once but twice in the Bible, which reiterates the importance of the message. When He said it in Matthew 18, He was talking to His disciples, and in Luke 15, He was addressing the Pharisees.
The Pharisees were actually self-righteous religious leaders who thought they knew everything. They studied scripture, they taught scripture, and they made a whole bunch of rules. These people thought they knew God extremely well but they actually only knew of Him. They focused on His laws and His wrath that they never took the time to notice His heart.
Perhaps that's why they were shocked to see the Son of God dining with sinners and tax collectors. They couldn't make sense of it, so to make it make sense, Jesus told them the parable of the lost sheep.
His goal was to make them realize that God cares for all His people, not just the ones who never make mistakes. Everyone matters to Him no matter who they are or what they do. There isn't a single person on the face of the earth who does not deserve His love, His grace, and His mercy.
So what does the story mean for us?
The Lost Sheep
There is no better illustration than that of lost sheep when human beings go astray. Just like sheep, we too are dependent on our owner, plus it's hard to find God when we're lost in the chaos of life so we need God to find us instead.
If you feel like you're the lost sheep today, know that you are never too far gone, too lost, or too broken for God to pursue you. He wants you back in His flock no matter where you've been or what you've done.
If you see someone that looks like a lost sheep, do what Jesus would do. We as Christians, are called to share the good news and the love of Christ, so choose to be the light. Don't judge the lost like the Pharisees did, instead love them as Jesus does. Remember, they matter to God just as much as you do.

The Good Shepherd
Our God is the Good Shepherd who actively pursues the lost. He's been doing it from the beginning of time and He isn't going to stop anytime soon.
He won't stop pursuing us until we're back with the flock because He loves us and He wants us to feel safe. You are not just 1 of 100 to this Shepherd but a son who He loves, a daughter who He loves.
You matter to Him just as much as the 99 who didn't get lost. He wants you back where you belong and He will not stop pursuing you until it happens. So whether you are a lost sheep or you want to help a lost sheep, talk to the Good Shepherd today. You are never too far gone for Him to hear you.
