The Infinite Love of God
Love, it's the one thing we've needed from others ever since we were born. First from our parents, then from the rest of our family, then our friends, and eventually our partner. There's no denying that the love we have in these relationships has brought us a lot of joy and at times even pain. We have loved and been loved by these people but we've also hurt and been hurt by them. This is because we're all human and as humans, we will fail each other sometimes, it's an inevitable part of life.
Thankfully, as Christians, over and above the love we receive from others, we also have the love of God. A love that is unfailing, unconditional, and unending. A love that provides hope in the midst of life's difficulties. A sacrificial love that seeks and saves the lost. God's agape love for us is love at the highest level possible, the type of love that will last for eternity.
Many can't comprehend this type of love. It's so undeserved, yet so strong and powerful, so vast, yet so simple. At times it’s hard to understand, a little too good to be true, but His Word explains it all.
Here's what God's Word says about His love.

1. It is Sacrificial
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)
God sacrificed His Son so that we could live and be in relationship with Him. Jesus died on the cross so that we could have hope and eternal life, it was all out of love, God’s love for us. So when you look at the cross today, instead of seeing pain and suffering, focus on the love. Punishment didn’t put Jesus on the cross, love did, and it was all for our good in the end.
2. It is unconditional
God demonstrates and proves his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NIV)
God's love is not like human love, His love doesn't weaken when we make mistakes or do things that He doesn't approve of. In fact, He sent His Son to die for us while we were still sinners. He did it out of His heart for us, not in response to our heart for Him.
3. It is eternal
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have drawn you with loving kindness. Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
The love of God is everlasting. It's infinite and nothing can separate us from it. Nothing can change the way God feels about us, not our sins, not the opinions of others, not even the way we feel about Him. Even when we're angry with Him, He loves us. Even when we don't understand Him, He loves us. He loves us with a love that will never end, no matter what. It's an eternal kind of love that will never run out. It will be with you forever and ever.
